RTX PRO or GeForce: which graphics card to choose for work

The same generation of chips is in both families, but they are not the same. The difference lies in memory, drivers, power draw and form factor. Here is when each one makes sense.

What really changes

Memory: RTX PRO cards carry more VRAM at the same tier, with ECC that corrects memory errors; the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell reaches 96 GB. Drivers: certified by CAD and CAE vendors. Power and form factor: the RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell draws 70 W and is low profile; the 4000, 140 W in a single slot. That lets you fit several in one case, or one in a compact.

GeForce cards, on the other hand, deliver more performance per euro in rendering and AI when the job fits in their memory.

When a GeForce makes sense

Rendering in Blender, Octane or V-Ray, video editing, AI development and inference of models that fit in 16 or 32 GB. The RTX 5090, with 32 GB, is the most powerful of the family for rendering and local AI in a single machine.

When an RTX PRO makes sense

When you need certified drivers (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX), ECC memory for long or critical jobs, more than 32 GB of VRAM on a single card, or several GPUs in little space and with low power. Also in machines that go inside a product, where power draw and form factor matter.

Several GPUs in one machine

Two large GeForce cards take up a lot of room and run hot: each can occupy three slots and draw almost 600 W. Several single-slot RTX PRO cards fit in a normal workstation, with less power and less heat. That is why our 60-person AI servers use two RTX PRO 4000 (48 GB in total) rather than two GeForce cards.

Frequently asked questions

Does an RTX PRO render faster than a GeForce?

Not necessarily: on the same chip, the GeForce usually performs the same or better per euro. The RTX PRO brings more ECC memory, certified drivers, lower power and more compact formats.

Can I mix GeForce and RTX PRO in the same machine?

Technically yes, but it is not usual: drivers and management are simpler with cards from the same family.

Which card for local AI?

The one with enough memory for the model. Up to 32 GB, an RTX 5090 gives a lot per euro; above that, RTX PRO 4500, several RTX PRO 4000 or an RTX PRO 6000.

Torn between the two?

Tell us which software you use and how big your models or scenes are. We recommend the card in writing in under 12 business hours.
