Why fanless
With no moving parts, the machine does not draw in dust or moisture, makes no noise and removes the most common cause of failure in dirty environments. Heat leaves through the enclosure itself, which acts as the heatsink: that is why they are usually finned aluminium.
Their limits: sustained power and graphics
Because they dissipate only through the enclosure, they take low-power processors and, as a rule, no dedicated GPU. What matters is not peak power for a few seconds but what they sustain for hours inside their enclosure and in their real location. That is why we test them for 24 hours at full load inside the final enclosure.
What MIL-STD-810H means
It is a US Department of Defense standard that defines how to test equipment against temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, altitude and other conditions. A unit tested to MIL-STD-810H has passed those tests; it is not a military approval. Ask which specific methods were tested and with what result: the standard has many.
I/O, power and connectivity
What sets an industrial machine apart from an office mini PC is the connectors: wide-range DC input (typically 12 to 24 V), RS-232/RS-485 serial ports for older machinery, isolated digital I/O, CAN in vehicles, two or more network ports, a slot for a 4G/5G modem and a TPM to encrypt the disk.
Mounting and protection
DIN rail in cabinets, VESA behind screens or wall mounting. Most fanless machines are IP40 (protected against objects, not water); washdown or outdoor areas need an enclosure with higher protection.
The same model for the whole project
In a roll-out of dozens of machines, a board change halfway through means redoing images and validation. Industrial ranges have long life cycles; our industrial range has guaranteed supply for 36 months.
Fanless, with fans or a workstation
| Job | Environment | Machine |
|---|---|---|
| Control, data gateway, signage, classic vision | Cabinet, dust, vibration | Fanless industrial |
| AI at the edge, deep-learning vision | Ventilated cabinet or desk | Compact with GPU and filtered airflow |
| Design, simulation, model training | Office or server room | Tower workstation |

Frequently asked questions
Do fanless machines get hot?
The enclosure is warm or hot to the touch because it is the heatsink: that is normal. It should have air around it and not be installed against heat sources.
Can they take a dedicated GPU?
Generally not, because of the heat they would have to dissipate. For AI or deep-learning vision, a compact with a GPU and filtered airflow.
Can they run around the clock?
The Professional 24/7 family in our industrial range is rated for continuous operation.
Where will the machine work?
